Avery Brewing busts out the second in its new line of seasonal barrel-aged beers today (the first was Rumpkin) at a taproom party running from 5 to 8 p.m. in Boulder. The beer, Uncle Jacob's Stout, named for a distillery-owning ancestor of Avery's Adam Avery, was aged for six month in bourbon barrels, it weighs in a 17.4 percent ABV. Twelve-ounce bottles will be sold at the party for $10 each. Fans can buy up to a dozen, and availability can only be guaranteed during the party.
Today is Session Beer Day (although Avery may not have noticed!), but do you know where your low-alcohol beer is? Read the blog post to find out what that means.
Twisted Pine Brewing's fourth Artisan Ale Project beer, West Bound Braggot, will be released today at 4 p.m. with a fiesta in the brewery's Boulder tap room. A "modern take on a medieval classic," the beer is a hybrid between a mead and ale, the brewery says. "The Twisted rendition began with malted barley, orange blossom honey and Citra hops, before the brewers shifted into adventure mode and added Tasmanian pepper berries and Buddha's Hand to the kettle. Then for the finishing strokes this unique ale was fermented with a Belgian saison yeast." Twisted Pine is releasing an Artisan Ale beer each month; the project is intended so that its brewers can "flex their creative muscles in much the same manner as the local artists whose work is celebrated on each label," according to the brewery. The label for West Bound Braggot features the painting "Running Wild" by Boulder artist Lael Har (who will be on hand to sign bottles).
