528˚ turns out wood-roasted pizza from mobile cart at markets around town

Happily, the truce between Civic Center Eats and Cherry Creek Fresh Market has opened the doors for many vendors to make regular stops at both events. One vendor taking advantage of the new arrangement is 528˚, a wood-fired pizza oven on wheels, which has also been making regular appearances at the City Park farmers' market and City Park Jazz.

528˚ was started by Thomas Garnick and his wife, Brittany. When Garnick left the Navy, he was inspired to do something outdoors that incorporated food and would allow him to interface with a crowd. So just as the rest of Denver's future mobile food vendors were snapping up carts and trucks, he picked up his mobile oven and started looking for events.

From that cart, he's turning out a regular menu of margherita, pepperoni, and veggie pizzas, supplemented by specials like the Hawaiian-inspired Tremetti, a pie topped with grilled pineapple, prosciutto and Gorgonzola, and dusted with cayenne pepper.

Garnick says he uses local and organic ingredients whenever possible, and he's looking to expand next year into another cart--one that's more mobile.

"Right now, we pretty much have to do a full set-up and breakdown, so we've been tied to events," he laments. "Next year we'd like to figure out how to pull the oven around town."

In the meantime, find him weekly at one of the aforementioned markets or at one of his regular appearances at the Great Divide Brewery; he'll also be vending at the Mile High Music Festival.
