Wine enthusiasts -- who perhaps don't quite reach the level of oenophile, but nevertheless enjoy their fermented grapes -- are generally familiar with French, Californian and even Australian wines. But there's a knowledge gap when it comes to Latin wines -- a gap that Centro Latin Kitchen & Refreshment Palace, 950 Pearl Street in Boulder, is trying to close.

The restaurant is kicking off the inaugural Vino 101 tonight at 8:30 p.m.; the series will continue on the first Tuesday of every month. You'll get a chance to try nine different wines from the highlighted region (February's is Chile; March, Argentina; and April, Spain) while enjoying some small tastes from chef Ian Clark. Sommelier David Miller will discuss the history, the region and the wine -- and with more than 230 producers of Latin wine from Peru to Cuba, you can bet he'll have plenty to talk about each month.

Admission is $18, and seating is limited, so call 303-442-7771 to reserve your spot. Centro is also offering regional wine flights from Tuesday to Thursday for just $15, so if you can't make it to the Vino class, there's still a chance to sip outside the box. Visit www.centrolatinkitchen.com.
