"A few years ago, during a brainstorming session, I came up with an idea to create an all-female chef cooking event, something that would bring together some of the best female chefs in Denver," says Sheila Lucero, executive chef of Jax Fish House in Denver and Boulder, and the force behind Females on Fire, a celebration of girl power that ignites tonight at 6 p.m. at Jax Fish House-Denver (1539 17th Street) and again at Jax Fish House-Boulder (928 Pearl Street) tomorrow night.

The dinners, which cost $100 per person, feature a cocktail hour and five courses paired with wines from Elyse Winery. Participating chefs at tonight's event include Elise Wiggins (Panzano); Mary Nguyen (Parallel 17); Aniedra Nichols (Elway's Cherry Creek); and Kathleen Kenny Davia (Gateaux), along with cocktologist Anika Zappe from Root Down. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Females on Fire Scholarship Fund, which is awarded to a female student pursuing a culinary arts degree at the Denver campus of Johnson & Wales.
