Can't get enough locally-made craft beer? You're in luck! Brian and Khara O'Connell plan to open Renegade Brewing this summer at 925 West Ninth Avenue, just off Santa Fe Drive.

"We are really excited to be in the arts district and to be a part of First Fridays," says Brian, a longtime homebrewer and three-year Denver resident.

"This neighborhood was interesting to us because there isn't a whole lot like this over here aside from Breckenridge [at 471 Kalamath Street]," says Brian, who used live in the nearby Baker neighborhood. "It's a great opportunity."

The O'Connells have started renovating the building, which will include a taproom with glass windows and roll-up garage door. They plan to install a fifteen-barrel brewing system and make a combination of organic and non-organic beer.

"Our slogan is 'Offensively Delicious,'" says Brian, who is in the process of hiring a brewmaster with professional experience to run the operation. "We want our beers to smack you in the face with flavor and really stand out."

With that, he hopes he will quickly gather draft accounts at local bars and restaurants; he wants to buy a canning line or packing as well.

Although there are at least three other breweries with plans to open in Denver within the next few months -- including Denver Beer Co, Copper Kettle and Caution Brewing -- Brian says there is room for all of them. "The more craft brewers we add to the market, the more marketshare we take away from the macro brewers."

Renegade will offer a variety of year-round and seasonal beers that could include a rye IPA, an Irish red and a Mexican-style amber to complement the nearby eateries.
