Tacos y Salsas has been a hit since the original opened on Federal Boulevard six years ago -- and since then, this homegrown chain has spread out across the metro area, with more than a half-dozen locations in the metro area now open.

Not, however, the Aurora location at 2284 South Chambers Road. That Tacos y Salsas is a literal hit: Late yesterday afternoon, a car ran right into the restaurant...which is not designed as a drive-through.

No one is answering the phone at the restaurant this morning, but judging from the following report -- which refers to the restaurants as "Tacos & Salsas" -- the damage to both people and property was significant; eight people went to local hospitals.

Here's the release from the Aurora Police Department:

On 6-10-12, at approximately 5:13 p.m., The Aurora Police Department and Aurora Fire Department responded to the "Tacos & Salsas" restaurant at 2284 S. Chambers Rd. on the report of a car had driven into the restaurant. When Officers arrived they found a Honda sedan had crashed through the front of the restaurant striking several patrons who were dining inside at the time. A total of ten people were injured. Eight of the ten who were injured were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the Honda pushed the gas pedal, instead of the brake, causing the car to crash into the building. Drugs and alcohol may have been a factor in the accident. Officers from the Aurora Police Department Traffic Unit will continue the investigation into the accident, and charges against the driver are pending at this time.
