The Halloween season isn't just about candy and costumes -- there's a supernatural side to the holiday, and Colorado is full of great ways to get spooked. From cemetery walks to haunted wild West town tours, here are ten of the best opportunities for scaring up a good time (and maybe even witnessing some paranormal activity).
Capitol Hill Ghost Tours Various locations, $15 to $25, by appointment Seasoned paranormal investigators Paulette and Dennis Huff take you on a tour of central Denver's haunted locations, sharing stories and decades-old mysteries of ghostly inhabitants of ome of the city's most historic homes and buildings. The Croke-Patterson Mansion is an especially spooky spot, with hauntings reportedly still happening there.
Phil Goodstein's Ghost Tour State Capitol Building, various dates in October, $20 Author and historian Phil Goodstein is a veritable encyclopedia of Colorado-centric knowledge, and his year-round walking tours are famous for their detail. Just in time for the spooky holiday, this local legend has compiled a list of stops centered on ghost stories and spooky lore. After meeting at the statue of the Indian on the east side of the Capitol Goodstein's tour takes visitors through the haunts of Capitol Hill.
Ghosts of Douglas and Surrounding Counties Palmer Lake Town Hall, Thursday, October 17, free The Palmer Lake Historical Society will be telling ghost stories related to the town's history and Douglas County at this free public gathering. Tales focus on buildings in Castle Rock, the Highlands Ranch Mansion haunting, ghost stories from Parker and more.
Denver Haunted Tours Wild Women Wine, now through November 15, $45 Tour Denver's scariest spots in the comfort of a chartered coach, hosted by Bryan & Baxter of Rocky Mountain Paranormal. Starting at Wild Women Wine in LoDo, the evening begins with a relaxing wine tasting before the two-hour tour sets off to showcase haunted locations, with ghost sightings and a little bit of Denver history thrown into the mix. Moonlight History & Mystery Tour Riverside Cemetery, October 18, 19, 25 & 26, $15 Nothing is creepier than a walk through a cemetery, and this historic plot is one of the creepiest. Listen to stories about Colorado's famous families as you stroll past a haunted mausoleum, various headstones of notorious locals and many other eerie sights. Make sure to grab your tickets in advance, since they're not sold at the door. Banjo Billy's Ghost Tours Pick-up at Hotel Boulderado, various dates in October, $13-$24 Take a ride on this wacky bus as guides show off the best in haunted locations in the city below the Flatirons. Hear tales of tricky child-like ghosts and see spooky crime scenes on the ninety-minute trip through Boulder. Check the Banjo Billy's website for times and dates of its Denver tour, too.
Creepy Crawl in Central City Meet at Century Casino, 102 Main Street, October 19 & 26, $10 With over 150 years of history, Central City has plenty of spooky spots, and this sixty-minute walking tour hosted by the Gilpin Historical Society will stoop at many of them. Tours depart every twenty minutes between 7 p.m. and 9:40 p.m., offering plenty of opportunities to get spooked in this Wild West town. Ghosts in the Gardens Denver Botanic Gardens, October 19, 21, 22, 26 & 28, $20-$25 More than a century before the Denver Botanic Gardens came to be, this plot of land was central Denver's cemetery. After dark, guides take visitors along winding paths through the DBG, sharing the scary history and tales of paranormal activity that has been experienced here for decades.
Ghosts and Legends Tour Morrison, various dates throughout October, $10-$15 This walking tour covers a lot of ground in ninety minutes, and includes tales of the Hatchet Lady of Red Rocks, haunted homes and paranormal accounts involving crime and murder in the small town. Tours begin at the Veteran's Memorial, located at the corner of Bear Creek Road and South Park Avenue.

Murder, Mayhem and Madness Tour Start at Golden Visitor's Center, various dates throughout October, $10-15 A wild West town just to the west of Denver, Golden has a rich history that's the perfect backdrop for this spooky walking tour. Mob killings, hangings and shootouts are all part of the stories told here; you'll also hear tales of paranormal activity in city buildings.
