Led by Saul Rosenthal, a professional cantor and PR guy, the jewgrassers will take the stage tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Swallow Hill Music Association's weekly Shady Grove Picnic Series at Four Mile Historic Park. You might even hear songs from their year-old CD Bupkes (roughly, Yiddish for "beans," "nada" and/or "goatshit") and other upbeat versions of traditional Jewish songs. And while Rosenthal likes to dub the band's sound that "high lonesome kvetch," we like to think of it as Jewmericana. Like this:
Gates open at 6 p.m. for the family- and picnic-friendly al fresco concert; bring a big blanket or lawn chair, a basket of food and your ears. Tickets, available at the gate, range from $2 to $10 (or free for tykes under age two). For more information visit Swallow Hill online.
