"It's an honor to be surrounded by nominees such as Android Tweetdeck, JP Morgan Chase, FourSquare, Nike+ GPS, Airwalk, American Museum of Natural History and others," says Vail Resorts Corporate Communications spokeswoman Kate Lessman.
In the Social -- Handheld Devices category EpicMix is up against the location-based Foursquare app, the Android Tweetdeck Twitter/Facebook/Foursquare/GoogleBuzz app, the JP Morgan Chase person-to-person QuickPay app and the Nike+ GPS app for runners. In the Experimental & Innovation category, EpicMix is up against Airwalk's "augmented reality" invisible pop-up stores, the American Museum of Natural History's AMNH Explorer app, Dare Labs' Remote Palette app and the Skifta app that turns your phone into "a universal remote control" and syncs music, videos and photos from multiple locations. Lessman says she's also hoping to do well in the People's Choice category; voting ends this week. To vote in the Mobile & Apps category and other Webby Awards categories, visit Webby.AOL.com.
Nearly 100,000 EpicMix accounts were activated in its first season, according to Lessman -- roughly a 15 percent adoption rate among season pass holders and PEAKS card holders.
Here are some more stats on the app's first season, via the press release at Buzz.Snow.com:
"Along with a 15 percent adoption rate and 100,000 users, 45 percent of EpicMix accounts are public, meaning that guests opt to share their ski day statistics with friends and family on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook... Also, EpicMix drove 1.7 million web and mobile visits this ski season. 40,000 people have also downloaded the EpicMix mobile app."
Not ready to call it quits on the 2010/2011 ski season? Those Epic Passes will still work for at least another month at (non-EpicMix-equipped) Arapahoe Basin, where just last night they got enough snow to close Loveland Pass. Time to hit the "beach"!
