It was a clothes call, but the results are in: Last month Meghan Throckmorton, owner of Rakun, issued an open call for local design students to submit original, custom-crafted women's looks. She's now selected the top three garments, and is encouraging people to stop by Rakun, her shop at 1147 Santa Fe Drive, by March 1 to vote for their favorites. By coincidence, all three of the finalists are Emily Griffith Opportunity School students; teacher Vicki Nolan is one of our Westword MasterMind winners. "We must keep the contest anonymous to be fair, but all three of them are from the same school," says Throckmorton. "We have only received ten to fifteen votes so far, so please come in and vote. You can vote more than once, but only once per day." The three dresses are very different, with their own aesthetic. One is athletic, with an attached hood, while another is monochromatic and a third more feminine, with pastel colors and patterns that echo spring. The winner, who will be announced during the March 2 First Friday festivities on Santa Fe, will get the chance to have his/her line carried at Rakun, and also a $100 gift card to purchase other local fashion from the store.
