Nowhere Boy at the Mayan (Friday-Sunday, $10) There aren't many theaters in town where you can catch a movie for less than $10, but for now, the Landmark franchise is still keeping it affordable. Since you've been avoiding the megaplex with its $16 tickets, maybe you should wander over to catch this biopic about John Lennon. Forever Fridays at Beta, 1909 Blake Street (Friday, ladies free) After a long week at work, there is an inherently human need to get out and dance. Thankfully, Denver has plenty of options for getting your boogie on, which is why we say all you ladies out there should hit up Beta tonight for no cover and no-holds-barred party-time. Art by Craft at 1490 Delgany Event Space (Friday, free) The Denver Handmade Alliance has been busy for the last year proving the homemade movement is wanted and appreciated in Denver. Art by Craft actually runs for the next two weeks, but if you want to get in on the reception, which includes live music, food and an interactive crochet tagging system, you'll want to cruise over there tonight. Hueso de Perro Grindhouse at Smokey Banana Tattoo/Bananelope Coffee (Friday, $5) For lovers of local, oddball and quirky cinema, this month is turning out to be one hell of a ride. Tonight you'll be able to witness some of the bizarro action coupled with a man in a luchador costume. We're not going to lie: When there's something that incorporates Resident Evil and Days of Our Lives into one thing, we're certainly intrigued. Ray Troll at Tattered Cover LoDo (Friday, free) Some people have a niche you simple can't argue with, and Ray Troll's is fish art. We've always been aware that someone was out there drawing the pictures we've seen in museums and science books -- but we had no idea one man has provided so much of that. You can check out Ray Troll's new book when he gives a Powerpoint presentation at Tattered Cover, but if you want to purchase it, you'll have to bring two of those $10 bills.Lindy Diversion Dance and Music Festival Late Night Dance at Denver Turnverein Ballroom (Saturday, $10) If you're interested in dancing to some swing and blues from 12:30 a.m. to 4 a.m., you'll want to hit up Denver Turnverein Ballroom this weekend. They've got a whole bunch of activities planned throughout the weekend that are free for children, but the late night dance is the only one less than $10 for adults.
Jonesy's Art Bazaar at Jonesy's (Saturday, Free) We've spotlighted it before, but we can't blame you if you've missed Jonesy's Art Bazaar in the past -- after all, there's just so much to do for under $10, you can't do it all. Thankfully, it happens every third Saturday, so if you love DIY crafts, comic books, photography or anything else born from the blood and the sweat of the common man, you owe it to yourself to make it down here at least once before the series expires in November.
Harajuku Street Fashion Party at Hinterland (Saturday, $8 please RSVP) How does an evening of people-watching sound? Unless you're one of the few and the proud to know how to dress in a Japanese street fashion party like this one, you'll likely be in the category of gawker -- but that doesn't mean you won't have fun. Now if you'll excuse us, we need to go pick up our Charizard costume at the dry cleaner's. Paparazzi for the People at Beauty Bar, 608 E 13th (Saturday, Free) If you've always felt like you deserved to get some paparazzi attention but never felt like going through the work of actually becoming famous, you might get your wish this Saturday (and every 3rd Saturday of the month from here on out). DJs Soup, AWhat! and London Dungeon are on tap for the first outing, with paparazzi photographers and a photobooth as well. If you're vain and proud, now's your chance to be more than just some turd in a crowdRock 'n' Roll Denver Marathon/Half Marathon in the Denver Metro Area (Sunday, spectators free) There isn't any room left for marathon runners, but even if you hate music, you can still find enjoyment in watching the runners run while you sit peacefully sipping on your homemade mimosa. We'd recommend hitting up the transition points in City, Cheesman and Washington parks, so you can drink you adult-beverage and watch the drumstick relay in peace.
