Information has been dribbling out about a robbery attempt at a cigarette and check-cashing store at 9445 E. Colfax that resulted in one man being fatally shot; the area is captured in the graphic above (if you have problems seeing the image, click "View Larger Map"). Now, the Aurora Police Department is offering a lot more details. Brian Lamont Lane has been ID'd as the man capped by a store employee, while two of his compatriots, Anthony Dean Daniels and Kathleen Yvonne Jones, have been arrested in connection with the investigation.

DATE: July 7, 2009NATURE: Aurora Police Arrest Two, Identify Deceased in Store Robbery
Aurora, Colo. - Aurora Police are announcing several significant updates in connection with an investigation that began yesterday into an armed robbery of an Aurora business.
Anthony Dean Daniels, DOB: 2/29/1968, was taken into custody on July 6, 2009, in connection with this investigation. He was arrested by members of the Pattern Crimes Unit (PCU) and the Fugitive Location Apprehension Group (FLAG) in an area of southeast Aurora. He is currently being held without bond in the Adams County Jail on investigation of Aggravated Robbery and Violation of Parole.
Kathleen Yvonne Jones, DOB: 5/25/61, was taken into custody on July 6, 2009, in connection with this investigation. She was arrested at a Denver Metro area hospital by Aurora Police and held for bond in the amount of $20,000 for investigation of Aggravated Robbery.
Byron Lamont Lane, DOB: 9/29/1968, was identified as one of two suspects shot during the commission of an armed robbery. He later died at a Denver Metro area hospital.
Major Crimes Unit detectives believe that on the afternoon of July 6, 2009, two robbery suspects approached Northeastern Mobile Services. One suspect, who was armed with a handgun, demanded cash from a store employee. The store employee complied with the robber's demands. At some point during the robbery, the store employee shot the robbery suspect. The seriously wounded suspect ran from the business to a car in the immediate area.
The employee who shot at the robbery suspect was transported by officers to Police Headquarters to meet with MCU detectives. While executing a search warrant, MCU detectives confiscated several guns from the business where this incident occurred. At the time of this news release the store employee who shot the robbery suspect was not being held on criminal charges, however this incident remains under investigation.
This case will be presented to the Adams County District Attorney's Office at a later date. Due to the needs of the investigation, arrest photos of Daniels and Jones are not being released at this time.

On July 6, 2009, shortly after 1pm, Aurora Police Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery in-progress at a neighborhood business in the 9400 block of East Colfax Avenue. Officers arrived after a suspect had fled the scene. The area around the business was secured and investigators were requested at the scene. During the course of preliminary investigation, officers learned that a male was shot during the incident.
The male fled from the area in a vehicle driven by another person. He later died at a Denver Metro area hospital. Major Crimes Unit/Homicide detectives responded to the scene of the shooting and the hospital. Detectives are working together with the Crime Scene Investigation Unit to collect evidence, interview witnesses and obtain a search warrant for the business where the shooting occurred.
