Sheridan Police Department confirms that a suspicious death over the weekend near the 2600 block of West Hampden along the Bear Creek bike trail was a homicide. No victim has been identified at this writing, but reports suggest that the victim was a 51-year-old female transient who may have died in a brawl with another homeless person. Here's what the SPD has released thus far:

On July 17, 2010 at approximately 10:22am Sheridan Police were notified of a suspicious death along the Bear Creek Bike trail near the 2600 block of W. Hampden Av.

The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy today and determined the cause of death to be a Homicide.

The Sheridan Police, Englewood Police and the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office are actively following numerous leads in conjunction with this investigation.

At this time no further information is being released.

The Sheridan Police Department, in conjunction with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office Crime Lab Unit, and the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office, is conducting an investigation into a suspicious death of an approximate 50 year old female. The body was located in the 2600 block of West Hampden bike path, along Bear Creek Trail.

The identification of the victim is not being released at this time, pending notification of the next of kin.

No further information is being released at this time.
