The Colorado Contemporary Arts Collaborative, called CCAC, was established last year to "build public awareness and appreciation of contemporary art in Colorado." The group -- the brainchild of Kent Logan (pictured with his wife, Vicki) -- has a lot of ideas, with one of the first being the establishment of a website which is being unveiled today, June 30.
Logan is a well-known Colorado patron with his own private museum in Vail. He has supported the activities of many of the state’s arts, cultural and educational institutions financially and otherwise, including all the member institutions in CCAC: Aspen Art Museum, Denver Art Museum, MCA Denver, Victoria H. Myhren Gallery at the University of Denver, CU Art Museum at the University of Colorado, Boulder, the Laboratory of Art and Ideas at Belmar, and the Clyfford Still Museum. Logan co-chairs the CCAC board along with Mark Addison, another major collector and arts donor who lives in Frisco.
When Logan -- or Addison, for that matter -- talks up the CCAC, nobody in the Colorado art world walks away. So it’s not surprising to see a who’s who list signing up to be involved. Among the locally renowned players numbered among the CCAC’s founders are the DAM’s Christoph Heinrich, MCA’s Cydney Payton and the Still Museum’s Dean Sobel.
The CCAC site, accessible at www.ContemporaryArtColorado.org, was put together by Boulder web developers McGinty, Inc. in consultation with the Lab’s Adam Lerner and Lisa Tamiris Becker of the CU Art Museum. It's easy to use, and also great that the CCAC has brought together the calendars of several of the most significant exhibition venues in the state. This, of course, makes it even more puzzling to see the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center left out. And that oversight really needs to be corrected, especially since the CSFAC is second only to the DAM in importance as an arts institution in this time zone. -- Michael Paglia
