Roberto Santistevan busted in fatal stabbing of Crystal Crespin on S. Eliot (17)

Update, 9:10 a.m. August 9: Late Sunday, a woman was stabbed to death at 1080 South Eliot -- the fifth homicide of the weekend in the Denver-Boulder area, shockingly enough.

Now we know -- and can see, an extremely vivid mug shot -- the man Denver Police have arrested for the crime: Robert Santistevan.

Yesterday, Denver Police Department spokesman Sonny Jackson noted that the DPD received a call about a domestic disturbance at the address. But the department subsequently revealed that the callers did more than simply alert the authorities. Neighbors went to the scene, where they discovered the thus-far unidentified victim and held Santistevan until cops could arrive.

Shortly thereafter, he was arrested for investigation of first-degree murder.

First, there was ten-month-old Adam Gonzales. Then David Hubbard, followed by Byron Parker and the Longmont three-year-old presumably slain in a murder-suicide. And finally, late Sunday, the stabbing of a thus-far unnamed woman, for which a man is in custody.

"We had a very busy weekend," says Denver Police Department spokesman Sonny Jackson, considerably understating the situation.

At about 10 p.m. last night, Jackson says, "we got a call that there was a domestic going on" at 1080 South Eliot Street. "We responded there and found a woman suffering from stab wounds. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead."

At this writing, the Denver coroner's office hasn't finalized a cause of death. Meanwhile, Jackson notes that "we have one male party in custody. He was arrested at the scene."
