The flash flooding in Manitou Springs, which killed one person, left a woman missing and caused thus-far unestimated damage -- has dominated the news in the Colorado Springs area, and rightly so. But even as nature displayed its fury, a gunman demonstrated shocking violence of his own.

Police are seeking Gary Vigil for a double murder, and a report suggests that one of the two victims was a pregnant relative of Vigil's who died after a shot to the face.

At 10:44 p.m. on Saturday night, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department, officers were called to the scene to find a man and a woman who were pronounced dead at the scene. Both had suffered apparent gunshot wounds. The following day, the CSPD announced that an arrest warrant for first-degree murder had been written out for the 22-year-old Vigil, described as a five-six, 180 pound Hispanic male with multiple tattoos on his chest, neck and arms. Judging by the photo shared by the cops (a larger version is below), he's had at least one previous run-in with the law.

More information comes from the Colorado Springs Gazette, whose Andrea Sinclair reveals that the killings took place in an alley between a tire business and a pizza restaurant; a pool of blood remained in place the next day.

Sinclair subsequently quizzed assorted folks who work at the Tower center. One reported witness said Vigil was related to the female victim, who was at least seven months pregnant at the time of her death; she's said to have been shot in the face. Others maintained that Vigil was waiting for the pair, ambush-style -- and a server at a nearby bar called the Lion's Den identified him as a semi-regular.

If you have information about the shooting or Vigil's whereabouts, you're encouraged to phone the police at 719-444-7000 or Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers, Inc. at (719) 634-STOP (7867), which is offering a cash reward in the case.
