No film festival is complete without a few sweet parties, and the Starz Denver Film Festival is no exception. If you're only going to hit up one of those parties, make sure it's the one with classic arcade games, DJs and an open bar, all in honor of an award for what has to be one of the strangest films of the whole festival.

"This is our third annual Reel Social Club Indie Voice award. We tie it to one film in the festival and throw an after-party following the film, and welcome a guest we present the award to them," says Reel Social Club co-founder Katie Shapiro. "In previous years we honored Leo Fitzpatrick, Jason Biggs and Jason Ritter."

This year the award goes to Bennett Jones, the writer, director and star of I Am a Knife with Legs a surreal tale of an international rock star and his manager on the run from an assassin. Full of weird animation, random musical interludes and absurd humor, the film is more than a little off the beaten path.

"It is a crazy movie," says Matt Campbell, the festival's programmer. "It's one of those truly festival films, made on a shoestring budget, but what comes out of it is truly spectacular. It's hilarious, it's weird, it's quirky ... it has cool animation, and weird psychedelic music videos. It's somewhere between Flight of the Conchords meets TIm and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! on acid. It's the perfect film for a Friday night to get weird with your friends, then go to the Reel Social Club party. It's a natural pairing between the two."

If that doesn't convince you, what will? A special performance by I Am a Knife with Legs writer/director/star Bennett Jones? Maybe a party lineup that includes DJ sets from Steele Kempton, Nick Spreigl (Air Dubai) and Julian Church (Air Dubai)? Or perhaps a special encore of this summer's street-arcade sensation, OhHeckYeah, which will bring its KacheOut game to the show? Or maybe just a reminder of those two magic words: "open bar."

The film will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday, November 21 at the Sie FilmCenter, followed by a Q&A with Jones. At 10 p.m., the party starts at the McNichols Civic Center. Tickets are $35 for the film and party, or $25 for Reel Social Club members (you can always sign up for an annual RSC membership for $80, too). If you want to skip the film and just hit the party, that's $25 and a sure way to be filled with regret when you hear everyone raving about the movie.
