Downtown will be hopping this weekend -- and not just because thousands of beer lovers here for the Great American Beer Festival will spill out into the streets. There will also be free performances, art and other activities for all ages as Reimagine Your Downtown transforms the area, turning parks into dance studios, parking lots into works of art and alleyways into gathering places.

Reimagine Your Downtown was created by the 2014 class of the Downtown Denver Partnership Leadership Program, which was assigned the idea "Tactical Urbanism: Transforming Spaces into Places" and in response developed nine projects that will fill downtown this weekend.

"We took a unique approach this year in how we wanted the Downtown Denver Leadership Program to culminate their work by making a two-day event out of it. This is the first year that we challenged the class to actually implement their projects that will physically transform an overlooked or underutilized space in Downtown Denver. We wanted to give the groups the opportunity to showcase their creative ideas to the public, with the hope that other individuals walk away inspired and begin wondering how they may be able to implement an urban intervention of their own," says Jim Kirchheimer, Senior Vice President of Economic Development for the Downtown Denver Partnership.
