The Walnut Room did a major remodel last year, which doubled the size of the kitchen; the RiNo pioneer will show off the results of those efforts at a party tonight marking its tenth birthday. And that's just the start of this weekend's culinary events; you can brush up on your cooking and baking skills at several classes, dress all Downton Abbey for tea at a castle or head to the mountains for a couple of beer-centric winter events.

The Walnut Room will celebrate its tenth anniversary today with a party from 5 to 11 p.m. This birthday bash will feature drink specials, complimentary appetizers and pizza, and free performances by Adrienne O, Andy Palmer, Roo & The Howl, Matt Hoffman of Strange Americans and DJ Social Lubrication. There are few things better than a great steak and a great glass of whiskey. Today you can learn about both at Cook Street School of Culinary Arts. In its Steak and Whiskey class, you'll learn about various cuts of beef and how to cook them with accompanying marinades and sauces. You'll also learn about a locally produced spirit through an educational pairing, and will complete the class by trying out your creations. Tuition is $99; register at cookstreet.com.

Big Beers Festival kicked off a weekend of beer and brewing in Vail yesterday, and the party continues through Saturday.The fifteenth annual edition of this three-day event includes thirteen workshops and seminars, as well as tastings and dinners. The Denver Botanic Gardens is hosting Healthy Cooking at Home: How to Stock Your Pantry from 10 a.m. to noon. Chef Elizabeth Buckingham will reveal non-perishable food items to keep on-hand in order to make healthy, tasty and simple meals; grains, legumes, seasonings and more will be highlighted. Wake Up and Bake with the Cook Street School of Culinary Arts starting at 11 a.m. This class will cover various techniques in baking all of your favorite breakfast pastries. The $89 tuition includes lunch and a glass of wine; register at cookstreet.com.

Downton Abbey fans should head to the Cherokee Ranch and Castle today for tea and trivia. The Downton Abbey Afternoon Tea will run from 1 to 3 p.m.; admission is $55. Learn more here.
