Untitled: On the Rocks at Denver Art Museum (Friday, $10) Make it a goal to attend each month's Untitled series at the DAM. They're breaking the ice on the new year tonight with On the Rocks. Chit-chat with a geologist about gems and jewels, go on a treasure hunt and enjoy some art inspired cocktails from master bartender Chris Clewell.Stuff On Walls at The Deer Pile (Friday, $5 donation) The title of this is pretty straight forward, however it has been meticulously planned out with soundscaping by Holographic Era to create a whole body experience. Check out art you may have seen around town from The Kwiatkowski Press, bold interpretations by Tess Brownson Illustration, and many more fine artists.
Drag Nation: Puerto Rican Invasion at EXDO Event Center (Friday, $10) Hopefully you saw our drag queen cover story last week, so you know that this show is going to be the tits. Nina Flowers will be there along with special guests from RuPaul's Drag Race Jessica Wild and Kandy Ho. As Flowers ends all Drag Nation shows, "This is the top of the nation!" McRad at Goosetown Tavern (Friday, free) Chuck Treece, front man for McRad used to be a pro skateboarder, and is a godfather of the skate-rock movement. Dating back to 1983, McRad has been playing hardcore music inspired by everything from Bad Brains to Fishbone. It would be rad to see this band alone, but they will be joined by Frontside Five, Hightower and DJ Paris for a night of gnar, completely free.
One-Year Birthday Party Extravaganza! at Former Future Brewing (Friday-Sunday, $10 for beers) The brewery that makes beer based on older recipes, but brews them in futuristic ways, turns one this weekend, and there ain't no party like a back-to-the-future-from-the-future party. On Friday, dress up like you're going to a 1920s speakeasy and enjoy beer-inspired "cocktails." Get down with Mile High Soul Club on Saturday while new firkins are being tapped every hour. And to complete the weekend, enjoy cartoons on the projector over brunch with Maria Empanada and coffee infused beer. Frozen Dead Guy 50K at Nederland (Saturday, free) If anyone can do this -- or even some of it -- then hats off to you. These winter warriors are looking to run a 50K from Nederland to Boulder. They say you can run as little or as much as you want, so if you're in shape, and you can peel yourself away from the brunch table, go run a 50k. For more info on the race and to register, click here. The "Why-The-Hell-Are-We-So-Busy?" Festival at McNichols Building (Saturday, free) If you're reading this right now, that's kind of a miracle. Between social media, work and a personal life, it's amazing anyone has the time to even go grocery shopping or do laundry. The fine folks over at Warm Cookies of the Revolution have a solution for everything however, so today they invite you to drop the iPhone and come hang out. Warm up the mind with some yoga, learn how to perform some improv, play giant board games and get to wiggle around for some OhHeckYeah! video games. Always make time to treat yourself.Epilogue Comedy Night at Mutiny Information Cafe (Saturday, free) It's not the weekend without a laugh, so roll down to south Broadway for a chuckle. Michael Carter, Mara Wiles, Steve Vanderploeg, Andy Flemming from Chicago and C.J. Toledano from Los Angeles will have you LOLing all night. As an added bonus, Illegal Pete's just announced they're sponsoring the night, so who knows, maybe you can score some goodies from them.
Mile High Velo-City Flyball Tournament at The Ranch (Saturday-Sunday, free) Way too excited for this one. Since dogs are about the coolest things when they're just sitting there, watch them take it up a notch as the dash over hurdles and bounce off walls at lightning speed. It's adorable and impressive at the same time. The Denver Dachshund Rescue & Transport will have some little buddies available for adoption and you can bring gently used dog supplies to donate to the cause. There's also going to be a silent auction on Sunday to help out our furry friends as well.
Boulder History Museum Free Day at Boulder History Museum (Sunday, free) If you're really trying to blow off all things related to the Super Bowl, go get cultured at the Boulder History Museum for free, or donate a few bucks. Right now they have a pretty cool exhibit on Chief Niwot, so cruise up there and support this institution.
