Love is in the air this weekend, and that's just kind of the way it is. If you're going to treat your sweet to a nice weekend of love, by all means save a little money on activities so you can spend the rest on chocolate. ANNEX Pop-Up Shop & Winter Release Party at DADA Art Bar (Friday, free)
There's going to be a lot of love in the air over the weekend, but if you're looking for something a little more hip and sexy to take a date to, come to this. ANNEX is a Colorado streetwear brand, who's only been around for about a year, To celebrate and launch this season's line of clothing they're throwing a party at DADA hosted by Turner Jackson Love featuring curated sounds by FauxGold, DJ Brown Brown and Eric David. They're going to be throwing out free clothes and positive vibes, so stop by to wine, dine, dance and shop.
Loveland Fire & Ice Festival at Downtown Loveland (Friday-Saturday, free)
When the name of your town is Loveland, Valentines Day kind of has to be your official holiday. This year the town is taking the holiday to new levels with live music and interactive light shows lining the streets. As is that weren't enough, the festival also features professional ice sculpting, a snow vehicle car show, a S'mores station, carriage rides and fireworks. Grab the ones you love and show them how much you care with fire and ice. Who can't resist a smooch under some fireworks?
2015 Denver Dog Show at National Western Complex (Friday-Sunday, $5)
Join thousands of dogs and their owners at this competition of conformation, agility, obedience and rally. Watch these regal creatures prance around and vie for the coveted blue ribbon—or treats in their owners pocket. In addition it provides a good chance to talk to canine experts for tips on training and advice on breeds.
Ghengis Con at Radisson Hotel Southeast (Friday-Sunday, $5)
LARP, RPG and WoW will be just a few of the activities for the nerds, steampunks and wizards to enjoy this weekend. Ghengis Con gathers all things nerdy into one spot this weekend, and for only $5 you can come peruse this fantasy convention. The weekend pass is a little more expensive than what our column offers, but you can show up for a day that will be well worth you money judging by the jam packed schedule.
PawsCo Valentines Day Meet Cute at Joyride Brewing (Saturday, free)
Hopefully you spent Friday night at the dog show, and caught the bug to get a new dog. The dog's don't really know it's Valentines Day, but you can make it the day the find a new home. Even if you're not looking to adopt a new friend, show our furry friends some love and come have a beer and bring a bag of dog food to donate to the cause. Dance, Baby, Dance! Family Dance Party at Shine (Saturday, free)
Participate in a global dance campaign to stop violence against women and girls at Shine in Boulder today. This is one of thousands of events going on worldwide today in observance of the One Billion Rising Revolution. Bring the family up to dance to the hits played by DJ Savior Breath and participate in peacemaking activities. Sources say there will be a flash mob immediately following the event, but keep that part on the down low. Let's dance our way to peace, folks.
Anti-Valentine's Day Party at Denver Central Library (Saturday, free)
Escape all the cuteness today and go to, “A place where nobody dared to go." The library continues the tradition of offering a little party and terrible movie to poke fun at love today. Xanadu is a silly little romantic musical fantasy film featuring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly's in his final on-screen performance. The film was so terrible it inspired the creation of the Razzies, but however is a lot of fun to party to, thanks to the Newton-John and Electric Light Orchestra numbers. RSVP here because space is limited and snacks will be provided for all you curmudgeons and couples too, if you don't rub it in.
Ration Beerworks Grand Opening at Ratio Beerworks (Saturday, free)
Theres no such thing as too much beer. Sure our state has already has plenty of breweries, but that doesn't mean we can't welcome these fellas to the neighborhood today. The partners behind the brewery met playing in punk bands way back in the day, before becoming brew masters, so not only will Ratio serve craft beer, but be a place to showcase art and music, tingling all of your senses. Food will be served by the Pinche Taco and Basic Kneads Pizza trucks. C'mon, nothing says love like getting day drunk with your boo.
Off The Wall Valentines Day Dance Party at Hi-dive (Saturday, free)
Stag or coupled up this is going to be a hot mess of fun. DJ Wesley Wayne's going to spin the hits from the 60s up until now. Just a guess, but it's a good bet you'll hear some Katy Perry.
JCVDDV at Alamo Drafthouse (Sunday, $1)
In case you're not hip to the lingo, let me spell it out for you: Jean Claude Van Damme's Damn Van. It's a JCVD spoof movie, but the real fun comes in celebrating all things Van Damme, like JCVD Cards Against Humanity and a Q and A with the director. Jean Claude is a serious dude, but this is a silly party.
