Damian Marsh ID'd After Death as Alleged Kidnapper Who Shot Himself on I-25

Update: The man thought to have kidnapped a woman and then shot himself on Interstate 25 in Colorado Springs has died.

He's been identified as Damian Marsh, 27.

Marsh is said to have lived in Colorado Springs but traveled frequently to Texas. His car had Texas plates and his out-of-date Facebook page lists that state as his home.

Original post, 5:48 a.m. July 22: Typically, traffic jams on Interstate 25 are caused by accidents — like the 104-vehicle mess that took place in 2014 — or high volume.


But that wasn't the case yesterday afternoon in the Colorado Springs area.

What was initially thought to have been a crash is now being investigated as a suspected kidnapping of a woman that didn't end until a man shot himself in the head.

Both the man and the woman are alive and are said to be speaking with investigators — which should help officials unravel this bizarre tale.

KOAA, KRDO and KKTV all reported on the incident, but only the former maintains that the officers originally responded to a report of a fatal crash involving a semi-truck — and offers this image as confirmation:


The time: approximately 4:30 p.m.

Before long, however, law enforcers realized they had a far different situation on their hands.

Inside a Dodge sedan sporting Texas license plates was a man and a woman.

Both were injured — but the man had been shot.

By who? The Colorado Springs Police Department tweet about what went down includes not one but two question marks:

Traffic was snarled for hours as an investigation was launched.

At this point, the CSPD isn't revealing much about the relationship between the man and the woman beyond the assertion that they knew each other — and that police believe the man took the woman with him against her will.

The names and conditions of the couple haven't been shared, either — although the man was apparently able to communicate with detectives looking into the case.

Traffic was finally restored to normal in the area, near Circle Drive, late last night.
