In September 2014, our Melanie Asmar broke the news that director Quentin Tarantino wanted to film his next movie in Colorado.

The following month, The Hateful Eight (Tarantino's eighth flick, appropriately enough) was officially approved to shoot in the state — specifically the Schmid Ranch outside Telluride.

Over the months that followed, excitement over the highest-profile picture to lens in Colorado for many years was tempered to some degree by a couple of factors.

First, The Hateful Eight, co-starring Tarantino regulars such as Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell and Tim Roth (supplemented by Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walter Goggins and more), is actually set in Wyoming.

Secondly, the main action of the narrative takes place inside a mountain cabin, raising the prospect that Colorado would largely be seen through windows in the background.

The latter could still be true — but the just-released first official trailer shows off Colorado's natural beauty with shots aplenty of snowbound mountains, trails and forests. The result looks like hell frozen over, and for a Tarantino joint, that could be heavenly.
