A posh new Black Eye Coffee opened this morning at the corner of Eighth Avenue and Sherman Street. This is the second Black Eye, but it's quite a departure from the more DIY original on Navajo Street, next door to the Highland Tavern. Expect the same attention to detail in single-origin coffee — available in drip, pour-over or espresso-based styles — but look for an expanded menu and later hours.

The new location, decked out in glossy Art Deco style, is open daily from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. (you read that right — night owls, rejoice) and will pour cocktails in addition to coffee and tea. Owners Ali Elman, Dustin Audet and Gregory Ferrari have also expanded the menu to include breakfast, lunch and dinner options to go with locally made sweet and savory scones, biscuits, hand pies and other pastries. The corner cafe glows with dark woods, black tile, plump leather chairs and plush booths in shades of olive, charcoal and mahogany. Framed fin de siècle photos and prints add to the vintage charm, while roll-up garage windows give a modern touch.

The original Black Eye opened in September 2012 and won our Best New Coffee Shop award in the Best of Denver 2013. Keep reading for more photos of the newest addition to Capitol Hill.
