Edge takes on the middle-class world of playwright Alan Ayckbourn with his comedy about a boring housewife leading a boring life who suddenly plunges into a perfect hallucinatory fantasy existence after being knocked out by a garden rake. In her mind, everything is peachy, while back in the real world, she’s the butt of an ongoing mean joke.

Bookface…the Musical touches on the online thread that runs through our 21st-century lives: The world premiere musical comedy from the local writing team of Melissa Faith Hart and Bruce Perry sweetly dissects the differences and commonalities among three generations of a single family, using the Internet as a metaphor, in this weekend run. And comedy is what you’ll get, with such songs as “Hacked by Al-Queda,” “Familiar Strangers” and “Bookface Stalker.”

Stories on Stage gets racy this weekend, wrapping its tried-and-true, staged-reading formula around the theme of Fifty Shades of Stories on Stage. Performances include readings of “The Spray” by Jonathan Lethem, performed by Josh Robinson; “Jubilation, Florida” by N.M. Kelby, performed by Diana Dresser; and finally, “The Curious Sofa: A Pornographic Work by Ogdred Weary,” a 1961 porno-classic by Edward Gorey performed by Chip Persons, which will include additional actors and projections of Gorey’s always-delightful illustrations for a Halloween-friendly finale.
