When they bought the four-decade-old White Fence Farm last year, Craig Caldwell and Tom Piercy definitely appreciated what founder Charlie Wilson had created in  Lakewood, but they also thought the White Fence Farm concept had potential to field a farm team of fried-chicken outlets, where fans could grab a meal to go. And now the first one is open, at 18630 Green Valley Ranch Boulevard.

All the standard dishes are available in Green Valley, offered in farm meals and value packs as well as solo: fried chicken, of course, along with coleslaw, bean salad, pickled beets, mashed potatoes and gravy and mac 'nā€™ cheese, as well as  such desserts as pies, homemade fudge, brownies and rice crispy treats. All the standard offerings but one, that is: corn fritters. Initially, Caldwell didn't think they would travel well in to-go orders, but demand has been so high that the kitchen has been working on creating a portable model, which should be available soon.

In the meantime, the White Fence Farm at 18630 Green Valley Ranch Boulevard in Denver is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. You can try calling  720-695-5823, but fair warning: This spot doesn't take orders over the phone.
