Riot Fest may have found a place to settle. For the first time since its Denver debut, Riot Fest & Rodeo will return to the same venue two years in a row. Early bird tickets went on sale Tuesday morning for the punk-centric music festival, which happens September 2-4, 2016, at National Western Complex.
The Denver outpost of Riot Fest debuted in 2013 at May Farms in Byers. In 2014, the festival was scheduled to return to May Farms, but was forced to move to Sports Authority Field. At the time, festival owner and managing partner Riot Mike Petryshyn released this statement: "I am utterly incensed. Elementary ideological forces and manipulation veiled in contradictory legal jargon prevented us from coming back to May Farms this year. Simply, we were duped."
In summer 2015, the fest moved again, this time to the National Western Complex. The event was considered a success as huge numbers took in bands like Modest Mouse, the Pixies, Snoop Dogg, Iggy Pop and more under a relentless sun.
For now, it appears that both Denver and Chicago—which also endured neighborhood legal complaints and venue changes—will both stick with the sites that hosted successful 2015 events. Fingers crossed, the organizers won't have to deal with drama over location, location, location.

"We loved National Western for its layout — pretty easy to get to but not adjoining a high-density residential locale. And the people were great to work with," says Heather West of Western Publicity, PR for Riot Fest.
Though the venue will remain the same, fans will notice one significant change: ticket price. In 2015, three-day passes started at $69.98, but this year the lowest-tier price jumped to $99.98. Passes at the lowest price and $109.98 were already sold out at the time of publication, and the lowest price available is $129.98. According to West, the previous price of $69.98 was "so cheap it didn't make sense for three days."
What remains of the early-bird general admission and VIP passes for Denver and Chicago are available now here.
Despite our gentle nudging, West would not reveal any details on the lineup for Riot Fest & Rodeo 2016.
