Colorado’s chain gang keeps growing. Cheba Hut “Toasted” Subs, which has been “curing munchies” since Scott Jennings founded the company in 1998, will open another Denver location, at 745 Colorado Boulevard, today. The group has been growing its brand here — helping put the “high” in the Mile High City — since it opened a spot at 1531 Champa Street in 2009; it also has a store at 638 East Colfax Avenue, as well as locations in Greeley, Boulder and Fort Collins.

The new Colorado Boulevard sub shop is no stranger to sandwiches: It was once the second location of the Spicy Pickle, another locally grown chain that rose to fame with a nationwide string of franchises before going up in smoke in 2012.

Cheba Hut's presence spreads well beyond Colorado's borders. We tend to think of the cannabis-themed chain as a local product, but the first store was actually in Tempe, Arizona. With today's opening, the chain now has seventeen stores, stretching from Colorado to New Mexico, Arizona, California, Oregon and Wisconsin.
