New art is blooming all over town, so don’t be an April fool — get out and celebrate the season and support your local artists.
The Art Gym
Now through April 21
Art Gym shows some Mo’Print mojo in April with ImPressed, a national printmaking show juried by the studio venue’s own printmaking director, Gregory Santos. Visit the gallery between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, and take some time to check out the creative workspace’s printmaking studio; Santos will lead a free hands-on mono print studio session there from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 9. Visit the website for details.
Jack Estenssoro, Paul Keefe
April 1 through May 1
Opening reception: 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, April 1
Dateline sneaks in a fun show from Denver artists Jack Estenssoro, who claims to be a “Squirtle from Pokémon!” and whose humorous works are inspired by pop-culture references and American nonsense, and Paul Keefe, who paints whimsical sketches and notes offering psychic insights into everyday life. Work by both artists will be on the walls at Dateline for First Friday and then available for viewing in a flat file through May 1.
Zip 37 Gallery
April 1 through 17
Opening reception: 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, April 1
Veteran Colorado co-op artist Zoa Ace takes over Zip 37 for the top of April with another colorful trip into her pop milieu, where people and animals and flowers mingle on canvases in perfect compositions. Her work resides in the Denver Art Museum and has been displayed around the world, but she remains loyal to little Zip’s always welcoming walls.
Ham and Millicent’s Boulder Arts Week Art Walk
Boulder Public Library, Canyon Gallery
3:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 2
As Boulder Arts Week draws to a close this weekend, BAW director Emily K. Harrison (who also leads Boulder’s square product theatre) and her sidekick, Claire Patton of Quake Theater, will be in character for an art walk around downtown Boulder that promises to be as hilarious as it is culturally stimulating. Wear good shoes, meet at the BPL’s gallery and see local art along the Pearl Street Mall; the walk dovetails nicely into the Boulder Arts Week Closing Celebration, a happy-hour party beginning at 5 p.m. at License No. 1, 2115 13th Street in Boulder. Admission is free for both the tour and the party.
