The Mile High City has been mourning Prince in a big way this week. After hearing news of his passing on April 21, artists, city officials and others hit the streets to celebrate his legacy. Film on the Rocks even added a special Purple Rain showing to its 2016 season to honor Prince's impact. Here are three beautiful tributes to the Purple One almost as worthy of adoration and praise as the pop-culture icon himself.
Union Station and the City and County Building Glow Purple
On the evening of April 21, after hearing the news of Prince's passing, officials lit up the facades of the City and County Building as well as Union Station, in purple. They are glowing purple through the weekend, so be sure to check out the architectural tributes in person.
Mural by Danny Fernandez and Pat Milbery
With help from friend and collaborative artist Pat Milbery, Canadian rapper and street artist Def 3, aka Danny Fernandez, painted this stunning Prince tribute mural on the back of the taco cart located in RiNo at 27th and Larimer streets. You can find it parked in front of the B-cycle station during the day or Matchbox on weekend nights. The front-facing mural was painted by Milbery: a precious taco cat saying "Taco right meow." The duo also painted one of its largest collaborative murals to date during Fernandez's visit this week at Declaration brewery.
Painting at the Meadowlark Kitchen by Thomas Evans
Thomas Evans did a live painting of this Prince portrait on the evening of Friday, April 22, on the back patio of the Meadowlark Kitchen. Using his block-color styling and depth of composition, Evans has given Prince new life. The piece will hang in the front dining room of Meadowlark Kitchen until the end of the month, and is currently still available for sale, but not for long. Contact the artist to inquire.
