This week will be a real free-for-all in Denver, with comedy, tacos and literary readings yours for the taking. We've rounded up our three favorite free events below, but you can always find more to do in the Westword calendar.
Torchy's Does Denver: Stapleton Opening Party
Torchy's Tacos
6 p.m. Monday, free
The first time Torchy's opened in Denver, it brought on a blizzard — but its second opening, this time in Stapleton, will bring the heat. And free tacos, queso and adult beverages at a celebratory party. Get there early and eat up!
2 Truths and a Lie
Fiction Beer Company
8 p.m. Tuesday, free
This deceivingly entertaining comedy show has found a new home at Fiction Beer Company. Tonight, comedians Meaghan Shaha, Daniel Reskin, Mara Wiles and headliner Brent Gill will share a few stories about themselves with you — but one is fictitious. As you sip on that Fiction brew, see if you can indentify the ringer among these jokers.
Lit Fest Author Reading
Lighthouse Writers Workshop
8 p.m. Wednesday, free
The annual Lit Fest is now under way at Lighthouse Writers Workshop, and some of the authors will be sharing their words with the public tonight, when you can enjoy readings by poet Jericho Brown, author Alexandra Fuller, short story writer Rebecca Makkai and best-selling novelist Lidia Yuknavitch. If you can't make it tonight, you've got another chance next week.
