This week was marked by the announced closings of two of Denver's favorite bars: the Campus Lounge on South University, and the Celtic Tavern (along with the attached Delaney's Pub) in LoDo. Both will have send-offs this weekend before locking thier doors. And both could return soon in some form or another. Restaurateur and Renaissance man Dan Landes is purchasing the Campus Lounge, while Celtic Tavern owner Noel Hickey has indicated that the Celtic could reopen in a new location. The Colorado Emerald Society posted this note from Hickey on its Facebook page:
"It is with a sad heart, that I have to let you all know that we will be closing the Celtic Tavern and Delaneys next Sunday the 25th of September. Developers have other ideas for our space. We will be celebrating our 16th anniversary party on Friday and Saturday. Please come and join us as you all have been a special part of the Celtic. Much love, Noel and Wendy."
Please stop in this week to tell Noel and his staff "thank you" for their awesome Irish hospitality these last 16 years! Friday and Saturday they will be serving up "farewell booze."
All CES members, there will be a hoisted pint on Saturday, Sept. 24th at 11:30am at the Celtic Tavern.
Stay tuned for a new location !!!!
But one of the biggest opening announcements in years offset some of the sadness of saying goodbye. The Denver Central Market will open to the public on Sunday, with eleven food and beverage vendors under one roof — giving a complete culinary shopping and dining experience to downtown Denver that has been missing for decades.
