Denver residents have been flocking to the Post's new outpost in Rosedale (Broadway south of Evans Avenue, for the uninitiated) since the bird-and-beer barn opened on January 18. What's all the flap about? Fried chicken, of course, but also a great bar with the Post's beers in cans and on tap, a staff that hustles to keep folks happy, and a menu that goes beyond country-fried fare. Nightly specials include Tuesday enchiladas, a Friday fish fry and Saturday prime rib.

But for something a little more cocky, the fried chicken banh mi packs a punch with its unapologetically Vietnamese flavors and hefty size. Sure, the breaded and fried white meat is the centerpiece of the sandwich, but the Post also whips up rich chicken-liver pâté (also available as an appetizer) that gets smeared onto the crusty French roll. Next comes a nest of crisp, tangy slaw called do chua (made with marinated carrots and daikon radish), a tangle of cilantro, a touch of mayo and plenty of sliced jalapeño, which cranks up the spice level to Southeast Asian levels.

The Post's banh mi is made to go with beer — especially the company's session lagers and ales, which are lower in alcohol but perfect for quenching thirst and putting out fires. So wing it on over to the Post for a brew and a banh mi; if the place is packed, just roost at the bar and settle in for some prime poultry pleasure.
