Opening this week!
The big cultural happening this week is the unveiling of the renovated and expanded Denver Art Museum, which will be reopening to the public on October 24, with an open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Advance tickets to that free event are completely sold out, though a limited number will be available on-site; find out more here.

And there are plenty of other free entertainment options in and around Denver this week, including a Halloween parade on Broadway and an incredible array of Day of the Dead celebrations (see our list here). Keep reading for ten of the best free things to do in and around town:

Fort Collins Book Fest
Through Sunday, October 24
Fort Collins venues and online
The Fort Collins Book Fest was conceived by librarians, writers and book lovers as a way to celebrate literature, literacy and social conversation. Since the first event in 2016, the fest has grown to fill three days with programs, all free and most offered both in person and online. This year's edition, dubbed "Up, Up, & Out," speaks to our collective desire to get up from our couches, meet up with family and friends (and soon-to-be friends), and get back out into the world. Find the complete schedule here.

Halloween BOOtique
Sunday, October 24, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Suite 625, Outlets at Castle Rock

Short of cash? The Halloween BOOtique follows a pay-what-makes-you-happy model for its gently used costumes. There's something for all ages, infant through adult; whether you can pay pennies or plenty (or nothing at all), you're welcome to shop for a costume at this seasonal shop hosted by Rylie's Ark; find out more here. And while you're at the Outlets at Castle Rock, check out the Halloween scavenger hunt.

Eighth Annual Park Hill Artists’ Open Studio Tour

Eleven studio locations in the Greater Park Hill neighborhood featuring the work of eighteen local artists will be open for this free, self-guided tour. Pick up a map with photos and descriptions of the artists’ work and studio locations at the Art Garage, 6100 East 23rd Avenue. Find out more here.
