Ahhhhh, bossa nova. It's back, you know, although -- like the best art -- it never really went away. Created in Brazil in the 1950s, bossa nova's marriage of jazz and samba remains irresistible. One of its masters, pianist João Donato, a contemporary of bossa nova founders Antonio Carlos Jobim and João Gilberto, brings his trio to Vartan's Jazz Club on Friday, April 27, and Saturday, April 28, for his first tour of the United States in thirty years. Listening to Donato's spare and dreamy lines, you imagine driving a convertible down the coast of Brazil with a pastel sky above and a beautiful companion next to you. It's effortless.
