Though not exactly a hotbed of musical talent, Israel can lay claim to the distinction of producing one of the most critically acclaimed trance and psy-trance acts around today. Amit Duvdevani and Erez Aizen, who make up Infected Mushroom, have been producing trance music in one form or another since the sound's earliest days in the '90s. The group's moniker dates back to a punk band of the same name that Duvdevani was in before he had any exposure to the dance scene; once he was introduced to trance at a rave, punk quickly took a back seat, and he and Erez teamed up to focus on what would become their musical obsession, a style devotees have coined "ambient psytrance." The act's LPs, the Gathering and Classical Mushroom, are among the best-selling trance records ever. Get under this Mushroom's magic spell on Saturday, September 3, at Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom.
