It's been six years since the Greyboy Allstars brought their blend of jazzy funk to the masses. Formed and produced by DJ Greyboy in San Diego in 1993, the Allstars dropped a couple of studio albums and a live effort before embarking on separate solo endeavors. Most notable was onetime Lenny Kravitz saxman Karl Denson, whose Tiny Universe simply gets better with every tour. Then there's keyboardist Robert Walter, who fronts the Headhunters (when his 20th Congress isn't in session), guitarist Elgin Park and, finally, bassist Chris Stillwell and drummer Zak Najor, who've spent time with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Allstars: The name makes a ton of sense now, doesn't it? In anticipation of their first album in nine years, the Allstars are kicking off their extensive tour with a string of Colorado dates commencing this Thursday in the People's Republic. Welcome back, boys.
