Now that Im grown and dont get to see Grandma as much, all the schlepping I do is my own. But Denvers Jewish community is offering an opportunity to get back to my roots with todays Schlep the Slopes, a bike ride that offers 10-, 28- and 50-mile non-competitive rides. The 50-miler departs the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 500 Fairgrounds Road in Castle Rock, at 8 a.m.; the 28-mile departs at 9, followed by the 10-mile at 9:30. All riders must check in by 7 a.m. on race day; registration is $45 for adults, $18 for kids ages fourteen to seventeen riding with an adult.
Support vehicles will follow, and snacks and water will be available along the route. All riders are required to wear helmets so, as Grandma would say, you dont bang your keppe!
Enjoy a kosher barbecue at the fairgrounds once all riders return to the departure point. Visit www.jewishcolorado.org/schlep.or call 303-316-6487 to register.
