Dog Days of Winter

Winter is hard on Marshall, my poor pooch. He still gets his daily trip to the dog park, but his favorite dog-park activity — swimming after his toy in the pond — is no longer feasible. It's not that he’s averse to the cold water; it's just that there's ice on the surface, and he'll cramp up, and I'm not about to perform an ice-rescue maneuver when the temperature is downright frigid.

That's why we're going to the Canine Rehabilitation and Conditioning Group at 3760 South Lipan Street in Englewood today for the third annual CRCG Holiday Pet Gift Fair and Party. While Marshall swims to his heart's delight in the indoor dog pool, I'll be perusing the vendor offerings to see what he'll find under the tree come Christmas morning. We'll partake in yummy goodies for both human and canine, I'll place some bids in the silent auction, and Marshall will pose with Santa for a photo. Proceeds from the swimming, auction and photos go to Harrison Memorial Hospital; the free fair and party run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 303-762-7946 or visit
