The Band Show

One of my favorite music-geek thought experiments has always been building fantasy supergroups. What would a David Bowie-fronted version of New Order sound like? How cool would it be if Neil Young joined Sonic Youth for a set or two? Tonight, fans of Denver's killer music scene are going to find out what that really looks and sounds like when Stand By Your Band II comes to the hi-dive, 7 South Broadway. Members of several of the city's finest acts, including Born in the Flood, Hot IQs, d.biddle, Mothership, Everything Absent or Distorted and Machine Gun Blues will be mixed, matched and sorted into new configurations. Each of the resulting supergroups will play one song by one of the bands that lent a member plus three covers. The first Stand By Your Band ranged from the silly to the sublime, and this one promises to be just as much fun as the last.

DenverKickstand is putting on the show to raise funds for the Denver Public Schools music programs, so it's not just a whole lot of rock and roll fun, but also a benefit for a good cause. Tickets are $6, and the doors open at 8 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets online, visit
