You’d be hard-pressed to find a more inspirational speaker than Erik Weihenmayer. In 2001 he became the only blind man in history to reach the summit of Mount Everest. The next year, the 33-year-old completed his seven-year quest to climb the Seven Summits, the highest mountains of each continent. His subse-quent memoir — Touch the Top of the World — told his story with humor and humility and was made into an A&E movie in 2006.

Tonight, Weihenmayer will give the keynote address at the Colorado Mountain Club’s Mountain Fest. An event for mountain enthusiasts that benefits CMC pro-grams for disadvantaged youth, Mountain Fest includes clinics on everything from mountain survival to reading constellations and concludes with a free happy hour at 4 p.m., a Taste of the Mountains benefit dinner at 5:30, and Weihenmayer’s presentation at 7:30. Those attending the dinner will receive a free auto-graphed copy of his book. Tickets for the entire event — which includes the clinics and exhibits, a photo show, the dinner and Weihenmayer’s talk — are $65 for CMC members, $75 for the general public. Tickets for daytime activities only are $3 to $10. Dinner is $50 to $60, and tickets for the talk only are $20.
