If you grew up in the ’80s, John Hughes probably influenced your life only slightly less than your parents. His films dominated the era and, in many ways, helped define it. His true genius didn’t lie merely in documenting a particular period of time (though he did that brilliantly), but in capturing the timeless truths of the human experience. Following his recent, untimely death, the Denver Film Society is looking back at his work with Don’t You Forget About Me: The John Hughes Experience, a three-day, six-film celebration of his life and films. From the classic teen angst of Sixteen Candles to She’s Having a Baby, these six movies not only underscore Hughes’s talent, but they continue to be entertaining after all these years.

The program starts tonight with Some Kind of Wonderful at 5:30 p.m., followed by Ferris Bueller’s Day Off at 8, then ends Sunday with the 7 p.m. showing of The Breakfast Club at Starz FilmCenter in the Tivoli. Admission to each film is $9.50, $7 for students and seniors, $6 for DFS members. Alternately, buy the special Save Ferris pass, which covers all six movies and a special Saturday night, post-Pretty in Pink “high school prom experience,” for $36 ($30 for DFS members).
