It’s a little early for this year’s Chinese New Year: The 2010 Spring Festival, celebrating the Year of the Tiger, officially commences on Valentine’s Day. But it’s not too soon to begin preparing for that month-long cycle of activities representing new beginnings, and there’s no better way of doing that than with an Asian performance spectacular on the par of Carnival China Style, a touring troupe of dancers, actors, acrobats, folk musicians and even calligraphy artists, which stops over tonight at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.

The elegant equivalent of an American vaudeville show, the family-friendly Carnival touches on both the traditional and the modern arts of China, featuring everything classical dance and music to the pop stylings of China’s “godfather of rock,” Wang Feng, as well as a Guinness World Record hula-hooper and an astonishing troupe of human pretzel-acrobats. The action begins at 7 p.m.; tickets, which range from $25 to $136, can be purchased through Ticketmaster, www.ticketmaster.com, or call 303-893-4100.
