Taking a Little off the Top

“There seem to be burlesque troupes popping up all over Colorado,” says Lola Spitfire, who — with Fannie Spankings, Midnight Martini and Honey Touche — is producing the inaugural Colorado Burlesque Fest, set for July 8 through 11 this year. “We’ve all performed at big festivals,” notes Spitfire, “and we thought it’d be a great idea.

“We have some major headliners,” she adds. “Michelle L’Amour, Tigger — King of Burlesque — La Cholita and Trixie Little and the Evil Hate Monkey.”

In the meantime, you can help by attending tonight’s Burlesque FUNdraiser at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret, 1601 Arapahoe Street, where the producers will team up with some of Lannie’s Clocktower Clockettes and some of the girls from Colorado Springs’ Peaks and Pasties group to put on a show. There will be prize giveaways, and a portion from each ticket ($15) will go toward the Colorado Burlesque Festival. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7; call 303-293-0075 or visit www.lannies.com for tickets. Go to www.coloradoburlesquefestival.com for more information on July’s extravaganza.
