There are also a wide range of films poking their lenses into social issues and remote corners of the world, in addition to the requisite mountain adventure films; the fest’s overriding theme is "Celebrating Indomitable Spirit."
"At our core, we're still about adventure and the mountains, but we're also really spread across the spectrum on the social issues and activist fronts, on the foreign policy front, and on the environmentalist front," says Mountainfilm executive director Peter Kenworthy. "The whole festival is just crazy with talent, from the films themselves to the breakfast talks, the concerts, the special guests.”
The festival kicks off today with a symposium on extinction from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; a Telluride gallery walk will highlight Mountainfilm's featured artists from 3:30 to 6. The following three days will feature 75 films at six different venues, along with related events around town.
