When thirty-year-old Mike Monkey Nuts Borcherding left his girlfriend in 2007, he didnt have a friends-and-acquaintances prenup, which meant he didnt have a pot to shit in when it came time to party. Poor guy. So he tried to join some kickball teams, but they were all full. Well, fuck you, he figured. Ill make my own, then.
What he made was the Denver Drunken Monkeys, a kickball team that turned into a dodge ball team that turned into parties, camping trips, rafting trips, bar crawls and fundraisers, he explains. Its turned into a social community always looking to add new people and make new friends.
Today at noon, add the
Mile High Sloshball Showdown to the Monkeys schedule of mayhem. Like kickball except with a beer-in-hand rule and a keg at second base, sloshball simply requires runners to finish a full beer before rounding second to third. With no force-outs, the middle of the infield essentially becomes a crowded keg party. You can stand there for ten minutes, Borcherding says. No ones going to care.
The Showdown goes down at Hirshorn Park, 16th and Tejon streets in Highland. Ten bucks scores unlimited keg beer and barbecue from Red Robin. Proceeds benefit the Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund. Get more information by searching Facebook for Denver Drunken Monkeys or calling 720-382-8426.
