Just over a year ago, Heather Snow decided she wanted to do standup. Building her comedic chops around the city at open mikes, Snow noticed early on that with the small amount of time allotted to new comics, it was harder to hone her craft.

Enter Ladies Laugh-In, a monthly comedic showcase curated by Snow and hosted by musician Chella Negro. Though the night’s name and objective definitely focus on giving women time in the spotlight, the event is all about both sexes. “I wanted to see women moving up,” Snow says of the event’s female focus, “but there were also a lot of guys interested in performing, and I didn’t want to turn them down.”

Snow says that when Ladies Laugh-In began in the summer of 2010, the dude interest was low, but as the audience filled in, so did support from the comedic community. This month’s installment is definite proof of the rise in Ladies Laugh-In’s popularity, with funnywoman Lori Callahan headlining alongside Ben Roy and Adam Cayton-Holland tonight at Beauty Bar.

Snow says the night has come to serve two purposes―giving newbies a chance while letting more established comics try out fresh material. “It's a very intelligent room,” Snow says of the event, adding that instead of fighting for stage time, key players like Nora Lynch and Jodee Champion are getting some long-overdue attention. Power to the funny people. Ladies Laugh-In goes down every third Thursday of the month at Beauty Bar, 608 East 13th Avenue. The event is free, and the show begins at 8 p.m. For more information visit www.thebeautybar.com/denver.
