The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth

Pub quizzes have been popular since the first day a cold draft beer trickled down the beard of a knowledgeable geek, though it wasn’t until recently that the quizzes became a national affair. But tonight, instead of the bulging biceps of most Bowl-related events, you’ll find a large collection of the pasty and the portly at the king of all pub quizzes, Geek Bowl V.

Quizmasters from around the Geeks Who Drink network will curate the night, with about 900 participants coming from six states to vie for cash prizes. And this will be the first year that spectators can watch the event. “We’ve got a lot of stuff for the audience this time around,” says Geeks Who Drink founder John Dicker. “The music rounds will be performed by a live band, we’ll have a great opening act, and the whole thing will be a big spectacle.”

The spectacle starts at 7 p.m. at the Fillmore Auditorium, 1510 Clarkson Street. Tickets are $12 for spectators, and team tickets are sold out — but if you’re dying to play, you can head to the Fillmore early and hope to get picked up, free-agent style.
