While someone else could probably stake claim to the designation of "Godmother of Denver Garage Rock," that title rightly belongs to Sarah Fischer — even though she would never claim it. A commanding yet gracious and friendly figure in the scene for more than two decades, Fischer has spent time in such bands as the Pin Downs, Speedholes and the Agency. Her latest project, The Manxx (due at the hi-dive on Saturday, July 2), doesn't just do the charming, trebly, stripped-down rocking pop that Fischer has done so well in the past; there's also a psychedelic flavor, with Dani Chandler on keys and drummer Dan-O's rambunctious rhythms. Playful confidence combined with a sense of youthful innocence has always set this band apart from other garage-rock acts.
