David Starfire started his musical career playing guitar and rocking out in bands (Cellophane Masses, for one) before weaving world music into underground electronic beats with his current solo sound; he's also a main member of the Dub Kirtan All Stars Project with FreQ Nasty. As a multi-instrumentalist and a DJ, Starfire — who has performed at Coachella, the Winter Music Conference and Burning Man — brings a unique spin to his music: He's known to play bass guitar and electronic hand drums during his sets. His melding of classical and devotional Indian music with funk, electronica, dubstep, dancehall and hip-hop isn't something you can hear anywhere else. Expect belly-dancing and booty-shaking at Cervantes' on Saturday, August 20, when Starfire headlines a show that also includes Bird of Prey, Knowa Knowone and more.
